DIY French Harvest Doorway Kit – Illuminated

Create a charming illuminated French autumn doorway filled with old-world architectural detail and cozy seasonal character. The DIY French Harvest Doorway Kit is one of my most detailed 3D printed kits yet, featuring an ornate arched surround, dimensional stone background, French double doors, miniature lantern, stacked pumpkins, autumn foliage, and warm illumination.

Both the windows in the French doors and the miniature lantern illuminate using the included battery-operated micro lights. Faux frosted glass is included for the door windows and lantern to softly diffuse the lights and create the warm, inviting glow shown in my finished sample.

The included micro lights feature multiple lighting modes as well as a convenient timer function, allowing you to enjoy the illuminated display without having to manually turn the lights on and off each day.

Once completed, this substantial dimensional piece is perfect for displaying on a shelf, nestled among vintage books, or incorporated into your autumn décor.

Lighting & Assembly

The backing plate arrives with two openings designed specifically for positioning the micro lights—one for illuminating the French door windows and one for illuminating the miniature lantern.

You do not need to use the entire strand of micro lights. The strand can easily be shortened by cutting off the excess lights. On my finished sample, I used only the first three lights on the strand and cut off the remaining excess. Be sure to position and test your lights before cutting the strand so you know exactly how many lights you would like to use.

The faux frosted glass for the French doors is intentionally left unattached so you can easily paint and finish the doors first. Once your paint and finish are completely dry, simply glue the faux frosted glass to the back of the door windows.

Lighting Tip: I recommend painting the back side of the French doors black before attaching the faux glass. This helps prevent the micro lights from shining through the 3D printed door itself and keeps the illumination concentrated within the window openings for a cleaner, more realistic finished look.

The included faux frosted glass helps diffuse the individual micro lights and creates the softer, warm glow shown in my finished sample.

For assembling the 3D printed pieces on my sample, I used Gorilla Super Glue Gel.

For attaching the faux ivy and miniature dried autumn leaves, I used Aleene’s Turbo Tacky Glue. The water-based tacky glue gives you additional working time to arrange the delicate foliage before it dries.

The ivy and autumn leaves can be arranged however you like. On my finished sample, I lightly toned down some of the brighter leaves with antiquing glaze to give them a softer, more naturally aged appearance. This step is completely optional.

Paint and finish your pieces with your favorite paints, waxes, glazes, metallic finishes, or antiquing techniques to create your own unique French Harvest Doorway.

• I use Krylon Clear Matte Protective Spray as my primer on all of my 3D printed pieces before painting. It provides an excellent surface for paint adhesion while helping preserve the fine details of the print.
